In this classic musical by Stephen Sondheim, the world of fairy tales is fractured in a powerful and tuneful way. When a baker and his wife learn they have been cursed by the witch next door, they embark on a quest to break the spell by swindling, lying to, and stealing from _ ‘ ‘ Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack (the one who climbed the beanstalk). However, what begins a lively irreverent fantasy becomes a moving lesson about community responsibility and the stories we tell our children when the characters are forced to face the consequences of their actions.
